When the World Feels Triggering
A gentle way to soothe your system when the world feels like too much.
There’s a lot going on in the world, and it can feel overwhelming at times. Empaths take the brunt of it because we feel deeply and are sensitive to other people’s (and animals’) pain.
We can try to avoid the news, but sometimes it’s difficult because it feels like it’s in our face. And it can come from anywhere, and at any time.
It can even come from friends who don’t realize their words or actions feel devastating. Because to them, it’s simply what they believe in.
Sometimes there’s drama in our own country, or whatever might be happening in other countries. And our hearts can hurt from what we see or hear about, and it can hit us at a very deep level.
That jarring feeling can trigger trauma and remind us of something that happened in the past. Or, it just feels horrible because we sense others’ pain, and it can feel like our own.
So we want the world to be better. To have more compassion for people, animals, or the environment.
We might see “Mother Earth” as a living, breathing being that sustains us. After all, if our planet is in rough shape, then we’re really in trouble.
And it can be hard to understand the actions of others. How can they be so unfeeling? Don’t they care? Don’t they know the pain they’re causing innocent lives?
This is what makes us empaths special, although it can make it difficult to cope at times.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. The important thing is to have an awareness of who we are and what triggers us, and put some boundaries in place so that we don’t become drained.
Let’s look at ways to soften the blow of the outside world, and find ourselves again. Here are some tips:
Know that you’re not alone. Rest assured there are millions of us empaths worldwide who struggle with our sensitivity.
Turn off or silence your phone when you can so you’re not being thrown off track in life.
Learn to look at things from a “distance,” as though you’re observing it without becoming emotionally attached, then get back to what you were doing.
Take a break with your animal companion: Go for a walk, play fetch, brush their fur, etc.
Make time for yourself to go into meditation, to calm and heal your heart and soul.
To help you with the last suggestion, each week I’ll be following up the article with a companion guided meditation to actually help you integrate what I’m teaching in the article. (Look for that on Thursday.)
Because going deep is where things really shift. We get out of our head and into our heart, calm the stress we’re feeling, and visualize the healing we need in order to feel better.
It’s like going underneath the surface to where we can actually make positive changes, and feel relief the fastest. So yes, there is help and healing for troubled times.
Don’t despair because support is here. I’m sending you positive energy, healing vibes, and lots of love. I can’t wait to help you even more on this journey called life.
After all, getting the support we need makes sense. It’s not about being weak, but being smart and proactive.
Helping ourselves allows us to help others along the way. Imagine how much we can change the world when we start from within.
If this stirred something in you, you may feel called to go deeper.
I offer a Mustang Path Alignment Call — a single conversation to explore what’s coming up for you and whether a deeper journey is the right next step.
The Mustang Path itself is a personalized 8-session program to gently unwind what’s keeping you stuck, reconnect with yourself, and create a more aligned, grounded, and purposeful life.
You’ll answer a few questions first so we can both be sure it’s a good fit. [Schedule your call here.]
